Opportunities to learn abroad
Unlock the world of language and culture with Servas Language Programs. Tailored for different Servas members, these immersive experiences offer a great way to improve your language skills and appreciate other cultures and ways of life.
Servas provides individuals, families or groups with the contacts and support to organise exchanges with confidence. You can apply for opportunities advertised through the website and newsletters or you can arrange your own exchange, or extended stay, directly with other Servas members. Either way, you can expect a warm response from interested hosts and a memorable experience.
Servas Youth Language Experience (SYLE)
For Servas members aged 18 to 30, SYLE offers an enriching opportunity for in-depth language learning and cultural immersion. This programme can be tailored as an exchange, a visit, or a volunteering opportunity, providing flexibility to suit your preferences.
During your stay with one or more host families for up to a month, you'll have the freedom to pursue your interests. SYLE offers an enriching journey whether you're furthering your study of a foreign language, exploring cultural diversity, or engaging in voluntary work promoting peace building activities.
If this interests you, visit our page providing detailed information on SYLE and an application form for the 2024 SYLE Programme.
Junior Servas Youth Language Experience (Junior SYLE)
Some Servas groups offer Junior SYLE programs for children aged 14 to 18. Junior SYLE offers supervised home exchange opportunities, allowing young explorers to live in another country and improve their language skills in a safe environment. Swap homes with fellow young explorers for two to three weeks and experience another culture with the guidance of caring adults. Use the Contact us menu item at the top of any servas.org webpage to ask if a particular Servas group offers Junior SYLE exchanges.
Servas Language Experience (SLE)
For ages 30 and above, SLE connects members with hosts worldwide for language learning and cultural exchange. Volunteering and work experience opportunities are also available within the Servas network, providing a range of exciting possibilities.
