Servas Story & Video Competition 2024

My fantastic Servas experience

Thank you for your interest in the first Servas Story and Video Contests. We are interested in hearing personal experiences with Servas, whether from travelers or hosts. One winner will be selected for each category (one story winner and one video winner) and published on websites and our social medias. 

The winning story and video will be announced on our official website and social media channels, as well as on the SINB (Servas International News Bulletin).

Contest details

1. Attendees: All Servas members.
2. Fee: No entry fee is required.
3. Theme: My fantastic Servas experience.
4. Category: Writing & Video. (One story entry per person per category*. Simultaneous submissions are accepted.)
5. Submission time: 5th August - 25th October, 2024. All entries must be received by 24:00 (midnight) UTC on 25th October. Submissions received after this deadline will not be considered.
6. Notification of results: Winners will be notified via email by 8th December. Results will also be announced on the competition website and through official social media channels.

*If the story appears subsequently in other publications, we ask authors to note that the story was originally published by Servas.

Submission requirements

Writing contest

• Submissions must be in written form, with a maximum word count of 500. Accepted formats include .doc, .docx, or .pdf.
• Please include 1-3 photos.
• Please include a brief 50 – 100 words story synopsis.
• All entries must be either in English or subtitled in English. Dialogue lists are not accepted. 

Video contest

• Submissions must be in digital format, with a maximum duration of 3 minutes. Accepted formats include .mp4, .mov, or .avi.
• Please include a brief 50–100 words story synopsis.
• Language: Submissions in any language are welcome. For non-English submissions, English translations must be provided.

Guidelines

1. Original work: Submissions must be original and not previously published or submitted to other competitions. We do not accept entries generated by or rewritten by AI based tools.  
2. All submissions must adhere to standards of decency and respect for cultural diversity.
3. Avoidance of explicit content, including but not limited to profanity, violence, and discrimination.
4. Submissions should not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of others.
5. Compliance with laws: Entrants are responsible for ensuring their submissions comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
6. Entrants must obtain explicit consent from all individuals featured in the submitted photos and videos, confirming their permission for the content to be published on the internet.
7. The competition organizers reserve the right to modify or update the guidelines if necessary. Any changes will be communicated to entrants through the competition website and official communication channels.

Rights and permissions

• Entrants retain ownership of their submissions but grant the contest organizers the right to display, reproduce, and distribute the works for promotional purposes.
• Proper credit will be given to the artists whenever their works are used.
